I played the tutorial and i am hooked already; the tutorial explains the basics pretty well although reading the manual never hurts either. The game is an interesting mix of different genres; it is a bit of Civ and the combat reminds me of HOMM and it is also partially a card game, i really like the mix. I definitely recommend this 4X game, a 4X game with punch.. I'm still early in the SP campaign, but it's interesting enough I'll give it a thumbs up. The action point system is quite good, making sure that even if you've got a substantial lead (or deficit) you're fairly limited on how much you can activate. The battles are quite good. The balance of forces and special unit powers definitely reward planning. However, it has some major flaws. Even on Hard, the AI does ridiculously stupid things. Not "oh, bad strategy", but "Oh my god" things. For example, I have zero fate points, I roll zero hits, but the AI still maxes out it's defense throwing away it's fate points. And the game economy isn't great. There's no maintenance costs, so you can put out your entire army. There's no real reason not to spend as quickly as you can. Even guys sitting as garrison are better than guys sitting in your hand. Now, because of the action point system, scattering your forces is a bad idea so there is some thought there. The 4x aspect is a bit weak because of the lack of any real economic considerations. So far, the SP campaign is more like Disciples, more of a set series of battles than a more open ended 4x.. This game is a mish-mash of a couple different genres that just works so well. You've got cards (soon deck-building), turn-based tactical battles (that is a combination of chess and HOMM) with a simplified 4x empire building system and you've got Last Days of Old Earth. It should be mentioned that this game is a "spiritual" successor to a game called Armageddon Empires (never actually played it). In the game, you take control of one of two factions and by attempt to defeat the opponent using a deck of cards filled with heroes and units that you produce with three resources that are produced over turns but can be increased with collectors. Units are varied (some are support and work better in the back lane than the front lane. Arty for example) and they have special abilities. Heroes lead your armies and provide buffs depending on their 4 stats and any special abilities they have (+1 attack etc). My explanation is terrible but the game itself is pretty simple and you'll find your self dominating your enemies rather quickly. Graphically, the game has a lot in common with Endless Legend and Armello. It's rather beautiful and I really enjoy this polygonal graphics trend amongst 4x and strategy games lately. Musics pretty solid as well.As it stands, the game's worst issue is it can get a bit boring against the AI after about 5 games or so. Thankfully, there is multiplayer and soon there will be a Single Player Campaign to play through. In summation, a solid early access title so far! Can't wait to see some new additions and the finished product.Gameplay Footage:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9AMEjxvl1c. This game is a lot of fun, especially since I am into collectible card gamesLearning curve takes a while and I am still trying to figure things out but I am charging ahead. Any negative reviews of this game are probably people that just can't figure out what is going onGameplay has been seamless which is not always the case for early access games.I think it is worth the money and would recommend to anyone.
